The Real Super Bowl
Okay. I admit it. I’m a football fan.
I love to watch games, eat snacks and root for my favorite teams. Watching the nickel back tackle a rival running-back on the rain-soaked field thwarting a touch-down is exhilarating. And when an arrogant quarter-back is sacked…I smile. When a ‘hail Mary’ is thrown, I hold my breath. I cheer when the under-dog wins and pout when my team is defeated. So, you see, I’m a die-hard fan…an arm-chair quarter-back.
Even with my love for the game, I would never want to take the field and play football. I choose to stay in the stands…watching from a distance. But in life, I want to be on the field and not watching from the sidelines. Sure, I applaud the achievements of others while I labor beside them on this mission field. As Christians, we’re running against the clock in the fourth quarter.
We know the Lord’s return is upon us. As we participate in the game of LIFE, we’re mandated to win the lost, to make a difference. For success, we must prepare ourselves, showing up for practice by attending church. Once prepared, we put our uniform on, our spiritual armor and engage in battle on the field.
Ephesians 6:10-17 says…
“Be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Take up the shield of faith, take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” ~ NIV
In your reality show, where you live day by day, don’t be a fan cheering from the stands. Be a player making points on the field. Keep your goal in focus. Fans are on their feet.
We’re moving forward toward the red zone. It’s time for a touchdown so call the play and boldly ask if he/she if they are ready for eternity.
Do they want to ask Jesus into their hearts and join the winning team? It’s the team headed for the real Super Bowl with eternal life in Heaven as our goal. Souls are worth the effort…so…play ball!
