Don’t Procrastinate

We live on the fast track. We’re multi-taskers. We cook dinner, help with homework, feed the baby and talk on the phone at the same time.

The speed with which we move would rival a 5K.

We’re list makers, risk takers conquering mountains of laundry after working eight hours at the office. We’re focused. We’re busy.

But, are we rushing past our priorities?

On my first trip to Africa, we ministered in Nairobi then drove six hours to Massai Mara to see the animals. In the Mara, we stopped at a Massai village and spoke to the Chief, asking if we could witness to his village. The leader of the team told him that God had a Son named Jesus that died for his sins.

The Chief looked at the sky. “We always knew there was a god. We call him Blue Sky. Didn’t know he had a son, when did he come?”

The leader told him He came over two thousand years ago.

The Chief thought for a moment and looked at our leader. “Why did you wait so long to come tell us?”

In that moment I was forever changed…challenged by his question.

Most of us can quote John 3:16. . . “That whosoever believeth in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life.”

We as Christians are surrounded by lost people. They work beside us, live next door to us, serve us at restaurants and check us out at Walmart.

Are we so focused on out TO DO list to notice?

Five years ago, a large church in Houston asked their children’s department to do the Easter production. The director reluctantly chose little Johnny to play Jesus in the presentation.

Johnny could remember his lines and play the part, but, he could be rambunctious, stretching the limits. Surprisingly, he made a good Jesus. He carried the cross and died really good. The play was a success.

At the end, the glowing director brought the cast forward to bow. The crowd was on their feet. They bowed again…then Johnny ran back in the tomb.

Everyone was still.

Then Johnny (Jesus) yelled out, “Ready or not…here I come!”
